A friend of mine the other day asked me a question about virus protection and what I would recommend for her Mac. Of course, my opinion would always be "What can I get for free?". So I decided to do a little investigation and highlight some of the free anti-virus programs for both the Mac/PC.
Also remember, a paid program will give you more protection (spam and junk email, online banking and complete online protection and much more). However as basic rule of thumb, something is always better than nothing.
I've included a small write-up about each and a link to download the free app/program. But be careful not to click on a paid version. Companies want to make money so they put their link to the paid version really close to the free version.
Please feel free to comment letting me know what your thoughts are on these or if you have recommendations of your own.
Mac
iAntiVirus Free Edition for Mac - A free app that will scan your Mac for viruses and malicious software. This app will also provide protection for your hard-drive as well as during real-time browsing.
Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition - This free app will scan your Mac for Trojans, worms and malware and will do it all behind the scenes. It can be set up to run on the fly or at a scheduled time.
PC
